Jolie Voight (born June 4, 1975 in Los Angeles, California) is an American
actor, director, and producer best known for her sexual appeal as also her
humanitarian work. The role she played in Girl, Interrupted (1999) was the part
she won in the Academy Award. Jolie, the daughter of actor Jon Voight, spent
most of her growing up in New York. She moved to Los Angeles when she was 11
years old. After having attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute
two years later, she was enrolled at Beverly Hills High School. New York
University later taught her drama. She also acted in theatre productions and
modelled for music videos. It was during Hackers (1995) when Jolie met Jonny
Lee Miller, a British actor (married 1996; divorcing 1999). As with several
subsequent films, the film did not find an audience. Jolie was the
segregationist wife of Alabama's governor. She received the attention of many
in 1997. The actress later won an award, the Golden Globe Award. She played the
role of a supermodel who struggles with drug addiction in the HBO film Gia in
1999. The performance won her many awards, including an award of the Golden
Globe Award and Screen Actors Guild Award. Following her Oscar-winning
performance Girl, Interrupted, Jolie appeared in Pushing Tin, a comedy with
John Cusack, Billy Bob Thornton and Billy Bob Thornton. Then, in 2003, she
divorced. She played the girlfriend of carjackers (Nicolas Cage) in Gone in
Sixty Seconds (2000) and later changed her accent to an accent that resembled a
British accent and was able to master street fighting and kickboxing to play
the roles of the title in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Lara Croft Tomb
Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003). The actress played Alexander's mother in Oliver
Stone's Alexander (2004) as well as appeared alongside Jude Law and Gwyneth
Paltrow in Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow (a sci-fi thriller set 1930s
New York City). Both films were box-office failures however Jolie scored a hit
with Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) which was a film where she played an
assassin pretending to be a typical housewife. While working on the film she
met Brad Pitt, who became her partner.
